Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta state, has announced palliatives for the state’s government servants, who will each earn an additional N10,000 each month.
The state’s 50,196 workforce will now work in shifts and from home, the governor said, adding that it is part of his administration’s effort to lessen the impact of the elimination of gasoline subsidies on the workers.
Oborevwori urged them to promote fairness, equity, and justice to guide their activities for effective service delivery in a statement made shortly after the swearing-in of 26 commissioners as members of the State Executive Council on Tuesday in Asaba.

He explained that employees in grade levels 1 through 14 will work in two shifts, one group reporting to the office Monday through Wednesday and the other group reporting on Thursdays and Fridays, while employees in grade levels 15 and above will have their work schedules determined by the various MDAs in a manner that works best for them.
The governor added that he has formed a committee to make plans for the distribution of palliatives to elderly people, widows, poor and vulnerable families, and persons with disabilities. I have approved the payment of N10,000 to the fifty thousand, one hundred and ninety-six workers (50,196) in the state public service for the upcoming three months beginning in August in order to lessen the hardship our people are experiencing as a result of the removal of the fuel subsidy and the downward spiral of the naira against the dollar.
Miss Orode Uduaghan, a daughter of the state’s former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, responded on behalf of the newly sworn-in commissioners. She thanked the governor for considering them deserving of the position and assured him of the commissioners’ unwavering loyalty and commitment to carrying out the M.O.R.E. agenda of his administration.
