Nigerian Air Chief Abubakar provided the reassurance on Wednesday while paying a visit to the grieving relatives of the crew members who had died in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The families of the MI-171E crew members who perished in the Niger State helicopter crash on August 14th have been assured of the military’s support by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar.Abubakar provided the reassurance on Wednesday while paying a visit to the grieving relatives of the crew members who had died in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

In a statement issued by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, the CAS expressed his condolences to the families for the tragic loss and noted that the loss of the crew was a significant setback for the NAF that would take the Service some time to recover from.He continued by assuring the families that the NAF would never leave them and would always stand by them till the bitter end. He promised, “The NAF will always be there for you and see you through to the end.”
The families of the dead crew were promised by Air Marshal Abubakar that their loved ones’ sacrifices would not go in vain since the NAF family and all Nigerians will always remember them for giving their life to ensure the country’s existence.
During the interactive session, the CAS expressed his condolences to the Unit and thanked them for their dedication and efforts in the continuing joint military operations in the Niger Delta. He also talked with the officers and members of the unit.The NAF commander promised that the efforts of the martyred soldiers would not go in waste and that the Nigerian Air Force will take all necessary precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Recall that on August 14, 2023, a NAF MI-171E helicopter carrying out a casualty evacuation operation crashed in Niger State, killing all 8 passengers and 4 NAF crew members.
Flight Lieutenant Adamu Ibrahim, Flight Lieutenant Anthony Duryumus, Lance Corporal Alaribe Daniel, and Lance Corporal Briggs Stephen Peter are among the crew members who have passed away.
The Nigerian Army servicemen who were recently attacked and slain by terrorists in Niger State included Corporal Jauro Amos and Lance Corporal Abdulrahman Abubakar, who were both members of the NAF’s Regiment.
