In Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has started orientation services 12 years after the camp was shut down owing to the Boko Haram insurgency In 2012, at the height of the Boko Haram crisis, the NYSC orientation camp on Kano Road was closed due to concerns from Nigerians regarding the safety of their children.
The NYSC camp later became an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) camp as a result of years of inaction when IDPs from Damboa, Gwoza, and Konduga sought safety.

Camping operations have resumed, with corps members being sent to Borno State for the one-year required service as a result of the restoration of peace.
The Batch B Stream 2 orientation course, according to Governor Babagana Zulum, was significant and unique because it put a halt to the ongoing expulsion of corps members from the state.The governor pointed out that the lack of corps members has prevented the state’s residents from taking advantage of the program’s auxiliary services and from exchanging ideas with people from other parts of the nation about other norms, habits, and cultures.
Governor Zulum pledged to enlist the corps members, particularly doctors and other frontline healthcare providers, to assist with vital state projects.He also pledged to rebuild the NYSC permanent orientation camp, which has been overstretched by the protracted stays of IDPs and is now only a shell of what it once was.Comrade Mohammed Adamu, the state coordinator for NYSC, revealed that a total of 1,125 potential corps members have signed up so far, including 629 men and 496 women, and that no one has reported any security threats during their travels to the state.
The coordinator applauded the military and other security organizations for safeguarding the safety and security of the camp and its surroundings.
Alhaji Mohammed Bukar, the chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, noted that the state has been quick in paying the members’ allowances and urged them not to move to other states for any reason.
The swearing-in of the corps members by Justice Bukar Malgwi, a representative of the State Chief Judge, was the highlight of the program.
