France to return $150 million from Abacha loot next week.
On Friday, the Presidency announced that France has committed to returning $150 million looted by the former Nigerian military leader, General Sani Abacha. In a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, it was revealed that the President expressed gratitude for France’s decision during a meeting with Catherine Colonna, the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.

President Tinubu, visibly pleased with the development, lauded the strengthened bilateral relations between Nigeria and France. He highlighted the positive trajectory in diplomatic ties, attributing it to his visit to Paris following his inauguration.
In his remarks to Minister Colonna, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the return of the Abacha loot, stating, “Thank you for the good news on the return of Abacha loot. We appreciate your effective cooperation concerning the return of Nigeria’s money. It will be judiciously applied in attaining our development objectives.”
This acknowledgment reflects the President’s satisfaction with the collaborative efforts between Nigeria and France in addressing the issue of repatriation of illicit funds.
