A vessel carrying 300,000 liters of illicitly processed gasoline has been apprehended by a Military Joint Task Force.
The Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), has successfully apprehended the MV Mother Mary, a vessel found with 300,000 liters of illegally refined AGO (diesel), along with two crew members in Rivers State. Commodore John Siyanbade, representing Rear Adm. Olusegun Ferreira, the OPDS Commander, addressed journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, providing details of the arrest made on October 29, 2023.
“The vessel, intercepted by teams from Headquarters Operation OPDS, was discovered departing with an excess of 300,000 liters of illegally refined products suspected to be AGO, with two individuals on board at the time of apprehension.”
Commandant Siyanbade highlighted that the seized vessel served as storage for the illicitly sourced product, emphasizing the illegal nature of the operation. The successful interception reflects the commitment of OPDS in combating illegal activities in the region and safeguarding the maritime environment. The authorities are expected to take appropriate legal actions against those involved in the unlawful operation.
