9 are killed by gunmen in Bauchi Forest
9 members of the Yan Ba Beli vigilante organization, a local vigilante group in Bauchi state, were killed by gunmen.
The vigilantes were hunting for bandits in the Ningi Local Government Area of the State who were killing and kidnapping innocent people for ransom when they were shot and killed by the gunman, whose identity and number are still unknown. The vigilantes were killed in the Gamji village woodland.
According to reports, the gunmen ambushed and attacked the members of the local vigilante organization, killing nine of them while injuring a few more to varying degrees.

An anonymous member of a local vigilante group described the events of late Sunday as follows: the bandits set up a well-planned ambush for the vigilantes in the forest, which they fell into, and “as soon as they veered into the ambush, the bandits opened fire with superior weapons and overpowered the Yan Ba Beli, killing nine of them instantly and injuring others.” The vigilantes were searching the rocks surrounding Gamji village for the bandits who were hiding there with the intention of killing.
After confirming the occurrence, Ibrahim Mato, the temporary chairman of Ningi Local Government, denounced it and promised that the government would keep up its efforts to safeguard innocent lives and property in the region.
Our correspondent has been informed that the nine dead were found on Monday and interred at the place of the incident on the same day in accordance with Islamic customs.
Regarding the event, the Bauchi State Police Command has not yet released a formal statement. Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, is the command’s public relations officer. As of the time of publication, he had not responded to text messages or WhatsApp messages sent to his mobile number.
