Police in Rivers State Apprehend Two Infamous Kidnappers for Abducting and Burying Ex-Community Development Committee Chairman Alive”

    The Rivers State Police Command has successfully captured two notorious kidnappers accused of kidnapping and burying Praise Daakian, the former Community Development Committee Chairman in Kereken-Boue, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State. Shockingly, the perpetrators collected N200,000 from the victim’s wife as part of the ransom before carrying out the heinous act.

    This revelation came to light as the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, shared the details during his inaugural news briefing in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Monday.

    In a significant breakthrough, Commissioner Olatunji Disu revealed that the suspects in custody have confessed to the murder. Additionally, during a well-executed raid in the community, two armed robbery suspects were apprehended.

    Commissioner Disu emphasized, “Recognizing a security deficit upon my resumption, we promptly addressed the concerns in various areas of Rivers State, particularly in Khana Local Government. On November 15, following thorough surveillance, the Anti-Cultism Unit successfully arrested Baridapdo Igia, 33, and Elvis Gordon, 26, both suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in the Kereken-Boue community of Khana Local Government Area.

    Following a thorough series of interrogations, the apprehended duo has admitted to holding leadership positions in the Iceland and Degbam cult groups, notorious for terrorizing Khana Local Government Area over the past three years. The community has witnessed ceaseless clashes between these rival cult factions.


    Startlingly, during the interrogations, the suspects further confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping and brutal burial of Praise Daakian, a former CDC Chairman in Khana Local Government Area. The victim was tragically murdered after the perpetrators collected a ransom of NGN200,000 from his wife.

    Commissioner Olatunji Disu continued, stating, “The duo also confessed to the brutal murder of nine other victims between 2021 and 2023, serving as the primary cause for the partial evacuation of the community during this period.     In a related development, the Commissioner of Police highlighted the arrest of three suspected armed robbers during routine patrol in the Trans-Amadi axis of Port Harcourt. According to him, “Operatives attached to the Mini-Okoro Area Command intercepted a tricycle with three occupants, Elsharawy Joseph, Thankgod Achese, and Ibrahim Ishaq. The suspects, suspected cultists and armed robbers, were found in possession of a locally made pistol and a dagger. The recovered tricycle is also under suspicion of being stolen. The suspects confessed to engaging in robbery using the ‘one chance’ model, successfully targeting and robbing unsuspecting victims of phones and valuables.

    “They utilized their tricycle (Keke) along Odili Road and Abuloma areas, targeting passengers for robbery. After forcefully taking valuables, they would eject the passengers. The suspects admitted to using a dagger and a locally made pistol to intimidate their victims, with the pistol sourced from an individual named Nkpogeto, who is currently evading capture.”

    Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu emphasized that tackling crime is a shared responsibility in society. He urged residents of the state to actively support the police by providing credible and timely information, enabling the command to achieve more significant successes in maintaining law and order.
