Bauchi police have detained Yakubu Adamu, at Kumbi village resident in Kirfi Local Government, for fatally stabbing his younger brother, Yayaji Abubakar, allegedly in a bid to inherit his motorcycle.

    According to a statement by Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson for the state Police command, Yakubu Adamu, a 25-year-old resident of Kumbi village via Alkaleri council, was reported to have admitted to the crime. The incident occurred on October 13 at around 7:30 p.m., when the suspect attacked his younger brother, Yayaji Abubakar, 25, using a knife. He subsequently took his red Bajaj motorcycle, with registration number 526-OG and an unknown value.

    He was seriously injured on his hands and stomach after the suspect repeatedly stabbed him with a knife.

    Following the report’s receipt, a group of detectives carried the victim to General Hospital Alkaleri, where a physician pronounced him dead.

    In the interim, the offender has been taken into custody. He is reacting to questioning by the police.

    “The defendant admitted to committing the crime during questioning. He also disclosed that he began the theft in 2020 when he illegally planned with an Auwalu who lived at the same home to take a red Bajaj motorcycle.

    They divided the proceeds of the crime among themselves after he sold it for N70,000. The suspect will face charges in court after the inquiry is concluded, he stated.

    In a related development, the Police reported that they searched two suspected kidnappers’ enclaves in the Angwari and Saya mountains as part of a joint operation with the JTF and local hunters assigned to the Tilden Fulani Division, Toro local government area. The raids were conducted based on intelligence.
