Joshua vs. Wilder: March 2024 is the new date for the heavyweight fight
According to Mirror UK, Anthony Joshua’s highly anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder has been postponed yet again. The earliest possible date is currently March.
Joshua’s original intention was to fight Wilder in the Middle East in December or January. However, because of the postponement, he will now likely fight in an interim match before fighting the American fighter in the spring. In August, he emerged victorious from his most recent bout over Robert Helenius; however, it was later discovered that the Finnish boxer had tested positive for drugs prior to the fight.
Also, Anthony Joshua is being given consideration to challenge for the IBF world title in the event that Tyson Fury’s expected undisputed bout with Oleksandr Usyk, which is slated for December 23 in Saudi Arabia, leaves it vacant.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, stated on iFL TV that his client “really wants to [fight].” He has been on calls with us the entire week. With the IBF scenario, a lot is going on. Let’s wait and see. In my opinion, he will fight in either January or December.
“Really, I don’t think the Wilder bout will take place until March or April at the least. He wants to fight, though. He requested that we try to get him into a fight for December, and we’ll see if that lasts into January. He wants to return to camp.
Anthony Joshua has fought in four fights over the last three years, going two wins and two losses. After suffering back-to-back losses to Usyk in world title fights, he recovered to defeat Jermaine Franklin and overcome Helenius via knockout.
“Anytime’s a good time to fight,” said Joshua in reference to his most recent victory. It’s just a brawl. Who it is doesn’t matter. Either Wilder now or eight years ago may have been the candidate. At the end of the day, it is what it is, and I don’t worry about it. All I’m thrilled about is that we can start the fight, and I believe that’s appreciated by most. I’m trying my hardest to maintain heavyweight boxing’s prominence.
