Wike Attacks the EU Regarding the 2023 Presidential Election Report
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has strongly attacked the European Union (EU) for its report on the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, alleging that it misrepresents the outcomes of the most recent election that took place there.
When Samuela Isopi, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, paid him a visit in his office on Monday, Wike conveyed his disapproval. He asserted that the study had given the false image to the electorate, particularly in his home state of Rivers State.
The Minister claimed that during the most recent elections, the EU’s job was to serve as an observer and not to publish a report that misrepresented Nigerian democracy.
Keep in mind that the EUEOM, under the direction of chief observer Barry Andre, delivered its final report on the general election of 2023 in June and listed six key areas with suggestions.

However, Wike said that Nigerian laws and EU regulations cannot be the same because of the differences in their contexts.
“I disagreed with the European Union’s evaluation of the latest report on the Nigerian elections. They must keep an eye out. Due to the disparities between the legal systems in Nigeria and the EU, their legal systems cannot be equivalent.
“What actually occurred in Rivers State was different from the EU report. How can individuals who defend and protect democracy be said to lack understanding of it?
“Our top priority should be how to strengthen the economy. Together, the Federal Capital Territory and the entire country must decide on specific growth areas in order to accomplish this. Foreign partners should be concerned with strategic development regardless of the field, he said.
The European Union ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, responded by claiming that the report was written by unbiased observers and had nothing to do with her operations.
Reiterating the Union’s dedication to working with the Minister to promote development both inside and outside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), she said.
