Troops from Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Operation Hadin Kai, successfully thwarted an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Monguno community in Borno State. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, August 5, involved ISWAP fighters using Hilux trucks and motorcycles to launch the assault along the Marte Axis in Monguno.

During the encounter, a fierce gun battle lasting approximately 30 minutes ensued. The intelligence sources, including Zagazola Makama, a Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, reported that the troops effectively repelled the attack, resulting in the elimination of an unspecified number of terrorists, with the rest fleeing the scene.

As a result of this successful operation, the troops recovered various military equipment, including hand grenades. However, one soldier sustained injuries during the engagement.

It’s worth noting that the ISWAP terrorists had previously vowed to carry out attacks on Monguno every two weeks following their defeat by the troops in the same area.
