On Friday, August 4, at the ministerial screening in the national parliament, one of the most unexpected things happened. One of the candidates on President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial list, Maryam Shetty, withdrew at the last minute of the screening. It was learned that Mariya Mahoud, a classmate of Shetty’s from both high school and college, had been substituted for her name.

Due to her enormous following on numerous social media sites, many people saw Shetty as just another Tik Toker.

She (Ms. Shetty) discovered that her name had been removed from the list of nominees provided to the Senate when she arrived at the national assembly for her ministerial screening.

Her name has been changed to Ms. Mahmoud, a classmate of hers from junior high school who later went on to attend Bayero University in Kano. Further information revealed that Mahmoud studied medicine and surgery and Shetty studied physiotherapy when they were both enrolled in medical degrees at the same university.

The connection between Mahmoud and the Gandujes During the administration of the recently-resigned governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, Mahmoud was one of the commissioners close to the first family at the time. Amina Ganduje, one of the powerful daughters of the current National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), is a friend of hers as well.

At the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Amina Ganduje, a medical doctor who also earned her degree from the University of Maiduguri, collaborated with Mahmoud.
