NLC will embark on a fresh strike if the government fails to meet demands next week..
On Tuesday, the NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) issued a warning that if the Federal Government does not meet its demands within the next week, at the conclusion of a 21-day ultimatum, they will commence an indefinite strike.
The labor union justified the impending strike by pointing to the Federal Government’s failure to provide relief measures to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidies.

The Nigeria Labour Congress stated that the industrial action, which could commence as early as next week, would result in a complete halt of commercial and economic activities nationwide.
Mr. Christopher Onyeka, the National Assistant General Secretary of the NLC, criticized the government for distributing a bag of rice to a dozen citizens while reportedly providing each member of the National Assembly with a N100 million palliative.
Onyeka asserted, “If the government does not respond appropriately to our demands, we urge you to maintain your steadfast determination. The same determination and resolve that fueled this warning strike will be essential if we are forced to launch an indefinite nationwide strike.”
He added, “We sent the letter to the Federal Government on September 1, 2023, so by September 22, 2023, the 21-day ultimatum will expire. We have made it clear that the Federal Government has abandoned the negotiation table; they are no longer engaging in meaningful negotiations with Nigerians.”
“On his own, President Bola Tinubu made promises to Nigerians on television with NLC President Joe Ajaero, stating that he would restructure the committees. However, he did not follow through with that promise, and since then, the committees have not convened, and there have been no ongoing negotiations. At this point, NLC is not in negotiations with the government,” Onyeka explained.
