NDLEA Foils Drug Trafficking to Qatar, Declines N5m Bribe Offer, The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Chidinma Chinenye-Agbazue, a 35-year-old woman, for trying to smuggle 10.70kg of Cannabis Sativa in 20 parcels to Doha, Qatar, via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State. The illegal substances were disguised within African salad ingredients, including Abacha and dried vegetables.
Read- NDLEA Foils Drug In collaboration with operatives from the Department of State Services, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted an operation that led to the interception of a 35-year-old woman, Chidinma Chinenye-Agbazue. She was apprehended while attempting to smuggle 10.70kg of cannabis sativa disguised within African salad ingredients, such as Abacha and dried vegetables, to Doha, Qatar, via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos state.
Additionally, NDLEA officers stationed at the Lagos airport, in conjunction with the Department of State Services, refused a N5 million bribe offered by another suspect in Lagos state. This development was disclosed by Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for NDLEA, in a statement released on Sunday.
Babafemi also disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed Chidinma’s residency in Qatar, but she returned to Nigeria last December for Christmas celebrations. She claimed that while preparing to return to Doha, she stayed at the Club Dice Hotel in the Ikotun area of Lagos, where the illicit consignment was handed over to her for trafficking to the Arab country.
Furthermore, on Tuesday, March 26, NDLEA operatives arrested two suspects, Monday Okeke and Chigozie Emeka, in Oniwaya, Yaba, and the Agege area of Lagos. During the operation, they seized 842,560 pills of opioids, primarily tramadol, along with 15 liters of codeine syrup and 596 grams of Molly from the suspects.
Okeke’s attempt to bribe NDLEA officers with N5 million in cash was rejected, and the money was duly documented as part of the exhibits to prosecute the suspects in court.
In Bayelsa, NDLEA operatives thwarted the smuggling attempt of opioids by three suspects: Ebuka Eze (31), Ugochukwu Okoro (44), and Kingsley Uzim (27). The drugs, including codeine, molly, tramadol, and diazepam, weighing a total of 73.425kg, were intended for the creeks in Southern Ijaw area. Eze and Okoro were apprehended at Swali Jetty, Yenagoa, while Uzim was caught at Amasoma in a follow-up operation. The substances were concealed in jumbo sacks and transported to the jetty via a tricycle.
Meanwhile, in a raid at Orile Imo, Ogun State, two suspects, Eniola Muyideen and Bankole Shuaib, were arrested with 137 blocks of cannabis weighing 71kg on Friday.
In Taraba, NDLEA operatives recovered 39,980 pills of tramadol from a suspect named Abubakar Mohammed (33) in Lankaviri village, and another suspect, Apaji Vincent (29), was arrested in Wukari on Thursday with 131kg of cannabis sativa.
Lastly, in Abia State, NDLEA officers arrested Nwachukwuu Chinedu (28) on Friday at Akara Ahuba, Isikwuato LGA.
Recovered from him were 46.65kg of cannabis, along with various quantities of tramadol, methamphetamine, and rohypnol, as well as N71,500 in monetary exhibits.
Furthermore, along the Isua/Kabba Road in the Idoani area of Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State, NDLEA operatives seized at least 127.5kg of cannabis loaded in a Volkswagen Vento saloon car with the registration number NTT 215 AA. Additionally, a 30-year-old female suspect named Chinasa Christopher was arrested with 400 bottles of codeine syrup in the Sabon Gari area of Kano.
Babafemi also stated, “The owner of a consignment of illicit drugs intercepted along Zaria-Kano Road, Bakura Goni, was apprehended at Mile 2 market in Lagos on Tuesday as part of a follow-up operation and subsequently flown to Kano to face charges. The seized consignment, consisting of cannabis and tramadol weighing 73.8kg, was initially discovered in a truck transporting it from Lagos to Kano.”
Meanwhile, during a raid at the Oloma-Okpe forest in Akoko-Edo LGA, Edo State, NDLEA recovered 278kg of cannabis destined for Idoani in Ondo State. Additionally, in the Amahor waterside forest in the Igueben area of the state, NDLEA razed not less than 3,065.255kg of the same psychoactive substance. Three suspects, namely James Thankgod, Wisdom James, and Akpa Festus, were arrested in connection with the operation on Thursday.
