At the State House in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio are currently meeting.

    When Festus Keyamo (SAN), one of the President’s nominations for a minister, was being screened, the Senate adjourned for a private session, and Akpabio arrived at the Villa shortly after.

    The Senate Sergeant at Arms led Keyamo inside for screening and possibly confirmation.Darlington Nwokocha, a senator, raised a Point of Order after presenting his resume and citing a clause of the Constitution pertaining to the Red Chamber’s monitoring role. He informed the Senate that Keyamo had declined to accept an invitation from the Senate to discuss the implementation of the 1,000 jobs for each of the nation’s 774 local government areas. Keyamo is a minister of state for labor and employment.

    As a result, he proposed that the Keyamo screening be suspended. Enyinnaya Abaribe, the former Senate Minority Leader, backed his move. Opeyemi Bamidele, the majority leader of the Senate, pushed for the Senate to enter closed session as the debate turned into a raucous session. But shortly after the private meeting, Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, hurried to the Presidential Villa.

    Although the meeting’s agenda was kept secret, it was believed that it had something to do with the adamant resistance to the senators’ screening of Keyamo.
