The Department of State Services (DSS) reports that it has started an inquiry into the altercation that took place on Tuesday on the grounds of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
An altercation between DSS agents and jail guards occurred during the arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, according to a Daily Trust report.
Peter Afunanya, the secret police’s spokesman, called the altercation “unfortunate” and said an investigation was underway.

“The general public will recall that Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN Governor, was charged on July 25, 2023, before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. The incident between its employees and those of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has been noted by the Service, and it wishes to make the following statement: “The incident was unfortunate and does not in any way reflect the professional disposition of the DSS; The Service did not and would never encourage the incident under reference. The Service will not intentionally work to discredit the judiciary as a branch of government since it has a great deal of respect for it. The DSS acknowledges that the judiciary has a crucial role in managing security, developing the nation, and establishing nations. the Service, too
c has a strong working connection with sister security and law enforcement organizations, such as the NCoS. “While noting that the staff from both Agencies displayed excessive overzealousness, the Service has further initiated detailed investigations into the matter,” the service said. This is done with the intention of identifying the roles that particular people played, taking appropriate disciplinary action when necessary, and learning some lessons moving forward.

With the way Emefiele’s case is being handled, according to Afunanya, the secret police did not breach any laws, and she said that some people were attempting to cast doubt on the agency’s top brass.
For emphasis, despite attempts by some groups to slant the narratives to the contrary, the DSS has not infringed any laws in handling the Emefiele Case. Since then, the Service has warned the public of evil conspiracies to discredit its leadership. It will make an effort to uphold high moral standards, professionalism, and discipline as it goes about fulfilling its assignments. The Service will make sure that it isn’t utilized for illusory heroism, clout-seeking, or fame-seeking.
“It will, however, continue to be centered on its mandate for national security and, as a result, exhort well-meaning Nigerians to assist it in accomplishing the intended security goals for the country. It is crucial to remember that Nigeria is the only country we have. To build it, let’s work together in peace and harmony.
