The Ministry of Environment in Ogun State is going to start the verification process for the state’s producers of table water and drinks as part of efforts to stop the cholera outbreak that has killed at least 12 people in some areas of the state.

According to a statement provided to our correspondent on Sunday, the Environment Commissioner, Mr. Ola Oresanya, made this disclosure at a meeting with the Nigerian Table Water and Beverage Producers Association at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to Mr. Oresanya, the conference was essential for the agency to identify registered water producers who adhere to the water production procedure.
It became imperative, he said, to keep an eye on the hygienic process of making water products and make sure they satisfy the standards needed for human consumption in order to prevent health risks that could endanger people’s lives and general well-being.
The fact that a factory is registered or listed with NAFDAC does not mean that the state will not monitor its production process to make sure that due diligence is taken to prevent health issues that could negatively impact the lives of its residents, Oresanya stated. “The state will not tolerate any factory that is not ready to follow the due process of production.”

He said that the Ministry will work with NAFDAC, the Ministries of Industry, Trade, and Investment, and Health to make sure that the hygienic production process is followed, and that regular on-the-spot inspections will be carried out to identify any problematic manufacturers.
Additionally, Mr. Oresanya threatened to punish dishonest individuals among the manufacturers.
In their capacities as producers, Mr. Femi Olukoya and Lawan Shobiye pledged on behalf of the association that they would work with the state government to protect people’s health and well-being by adhering to the hygienic production standards set by NAFDAC and other organizations.
Both of them emphasized that the association would not think twice to report any of its members who are supporting the production processes illegally and endangering the lives of others.
