This move consolidates the handling of appellate cases arising from the judgments of election petition tribunals, covering gubernatorial, national, and state assemblies’ elections. The decision comes in response to widespread complaints of compromise and undue influence on tribunal judges by governors during trial stages in their respective states.
The transfer aims to address concerns about compromised justice, with some tribunal judges reportedly facing potential trials by the National Judicial Council. While Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi welcomed the decision, he acknowledged the financial implications, emphasizing the importance of securing fair and impartial judgments.
