The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has pledged that the Nigerian Army will enhance its operations to address various threats across all regions of the country, ultimately aiming to bring much-needed peace, stability, and relief to law-abiding citizens. Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja made this commitment during the opening of the Combined Second and Third Quarters COAS Conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

He outlined that the army’s focus will be on different challenges in specific regions, including combating banditry, kidnapping, and other related crimes in the North West; addressing insurgency and terrorism in the North East; managing farmer-herder clashes and kidnappings in the North Central; and addressing insurrection in the South East. Additionally, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja emphasized the need to tackle economic sabotage and associated crimes in the South-South region.
Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja stressed that no region will be left unprotected, and the Nigerian Army plans to increase its manpower and equipment deployment across all operational theaters. He noted the success of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East, which has significantly reduced Boko Haram and other terrorist activities, leading to the surrender of many terrorist group members and the recovery of a substantial amount of arms and ammunition.
Furthermore, the COAS mentioned the positive developments in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa, where residents are gradually resuming their normal lives, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the military and government in restoring governance to previously ungoverned areas. Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja also highlighted the effective actions of troops involved in Operations Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch, which have played a significant role in containing banditry and insurgency in the North West and North Central regions.
