Nigeria loses the chance to host AFCON 2027
According to AFP, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have been selected as the joint hosts of the 2027 African Cup of Nations, meaning Nigeria and the Benin Republic have lost their quest to host the event.
In order to submit a bid to host the AFCON in 2027, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, and representatives of the Nigeria Football Federation arrived in Egypt on Tuesday.
Nigeria has only ever hosted the AFCON once, in 1980, when Christian Chukwu led the team to victory in front of jubilant home supporters that included former President Shehu Shagari.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon won the championship at the National Stadium in Lagos, making the shared hosting with Ghana a failure.
