NDLEA detains 67-year-old for using cocaine to pay for wedding
abuja—Chukwuemeka Clement, 67, a trafficker who had consumed 100 wraps of cocaine, was apprehended by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
After wasting 30 years in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Thailand, Chukwuemeka claimed he entered the illegal enterprise to earn enough money to wed a new wife and start over.
According to NDLEA, Chukwuemeka was detained on Tuesday, October 3, while boarding Ethiopian Airlines flight 951 from Addis Abeba. A body scan found numerous pellets in his stomach.
He “excreted a total of 100 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.195 kilograms in four excretions while under observation.”
In his statement, he stated that he had lived in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Thailand for 30 years during which time he had been married but had since lost his wife and had no children.
He claimed that’s why he made the decision to start a drug business to earn enough cash to find a new wife and rebuild his life.
A 45-year-old lady named Bilkisu Mohammed Bello was stopped by NDLEA agents at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, on the same day, Tuesday, October 3. She was getting ready to board a Saudia Airlines flight to Saudi Arabia.
She admitted during an interrogation that cocaine pellets supplied to her to ingest prior to her travel were stored in a home in Kano’s Farawa neighborhood.
52 wraps totaling 767 grams of the illegal narcotic were found at the residence after she guided NDLEA agents there.

In the meantime, NDLEA agents stormed James town in Ogunmakin, Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun state on Tuesday, October 3, aided by officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, Civil Defence Corps, and Amotekun personnel. There, they discovered and destroyed 10.38 tonnes of cannabis sativa covering more than 4.152 hectares.
The squad also stopped a vehicle on their way back from the operation to
a truck with the number FS548XN pulling a 40-foot container filled with wood logs.
Two 20kg bags of cannabis sativa were found after the container was searched, and six suspects—Ahmed Yusuf, Olaniyi Babatunde, Adedeji Babatunde, Richard John, Osolale Olamilekan, and Abdulazeez Saied—who were inside the truck were detained.
In a same vein, on October 1st, agents carried out a raid on the Obi camp in the Owan West LGA of Edo State, removing 30 sacks of skunk totaling 300kg and hidden in charcoal from a dilapidated old mud hut.
Similar to this, two marijuana fields spanning 1.179065 hectares were discovered and destroyed on October 6 in the Orhiowon local government region of the state. Tersoo Zaria, 28, Ifeanyi Osai, 53, Moses David, 19, and Daniel Gabriel, 20, were all detained as suspects.
While NDLEA agents on patrol along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway apprehended Anuoluwapo Blessing Iyanu, 32, with 52 blocks of compressed pawpaw-shaped cannabis sativa weighing 30kgs on Wednesday, 4th October, in Gombe state, a suspect named Auwal Bindow was arrested with 50,000 tramadol capsules.
The War Against Drug Abuse, or WADA, advocacy campaign was continued last week by the agency’s various commands across the nation with the same vigor, including WADA sensitization lectures for teachers and students at Royal Ambassador Secondary School in Makurdi, Benue state, and Igbonnibi High School in Ila Orangun, Osun state.
Others were the LGA WADA sensitization presentation for students of Beth-Root Model Secondary School in Onitsha, Anambra state, and the WADA sensitization talk at Ilora Baptist Grammar School in Ilora, Oyo state.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Ret.), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, complimented the officers and personnel of the NAIA, MAKIA, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, and Gombe Commands of the Agency for their exceptional achievements during the past week.
He also commended their counterparts in all the commands across the nation for stepping up their WADA advocacy lectures and developing a balanced mix of their actions to reduce drug supply and demand.
