The Kano State Government orchestrated a mass wedding ceremony, joining together 3,600 men and women hailing from the 44 local government areas of the state. The wedding Fatihah took place at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero.

The participants, spanning young individuals, widows, divorcees, and spinsters, represented the diverse population of the state. The ceremony saw the presence of Governor Abba Yusuf, Kwankwasiyya Leader Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, government officials, and religious leaders. Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, was represented by Yusuf Nabahani, the Madakin Kano.
Yusuf conveyed the belief that this matrimonial spectacle underscores the state’s commitment to upholding cultural traditions and fostering social cohesion. Additionally, it provides couples with a memorable and cost-effective way to formalize their unions. He announced that the festivities would continue with a “walima” (traditional feast) at the Government House on Saturday, adding further significance and joy to this collective union.
The governor emphasized that the mass wedding initiative not only reinforces the bonds between couples but also highlights the state government’s dedication to supporting its citizens and celebrating the institution of marriage. He stated, “The event reflects the deep-rooted values and unity of the people in Kano State and highlights the government’s dedication to preserving traditions while ensuring a bright future for its people.”
