Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko, the dean of student affairs of Lagos State University, Ojo, has been dismissed.His dismissal was related to a story that an internet news outlet (not The PUNCH) released on Monday.
According to the narrative, a certificate racketeering organization was selling authentic Lagos State University certificates for N2–N3 million, depending on the specific course’s technicality, to anyone who was interested.
In the meanwhile, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, has been designated as the acting DSA.
According to an anonymous source within the university, the removal of Professor Olumoko as the Dean of Student Affairs has been confirmed, with Abatan assuming the position. However, LASU’s Coordinator for the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, did not confirm the news, citing her absence from the office.
The Lagos State House of Assembly has also announced its intention to summon key figures, including the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, the Vice-Chancellor, and the Senate of the institution, over recent allegations of extortion and certificate racketeering at the university.

On Tuesday, the Lagos State House of Assembly made a resolution to summon key figures including the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Akibu, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Senate, and other top staff to investigate allegations of extortion and certificate racketeering recently leveled against the institution.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa expressed caution regarding the credibility of the source, emphasizing the need to unearth facts without tarnishing the school’s reputation. He emphasized the importance of appropriate sanctions if any individual is found guilty.
