20-year-old UNILORIN student kills herself after giving a boy N400,000
A twenty-year-old University of Ilorin student named Sanni Hameedat is said to have killed himself due to an outstanding N500,000 loan via an internet lending company.
A source who talked with Vanguard on Wednesday on the condition of anonymity said that Hameedat’s death was officially declared at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
Before the porters at her hostel phoned for an ambulance to take her to the hospital, it was reported that the dead had consumed Sniper.
The insider revealed that the pressure she was under from loan shark agents after she missed payments on her repayment plan had a role in her demise.
“The deceased (Hameedat) was distressed by a financial predicament she encountered, as far as I can tell. She was apparently duped by a man she met on Snapchat, despite her mother having trusted her with a large sum of money.
The con artist stated that she was in dire need of N400,000 to treat his mother, who was purportedly suffering from breast cancer. Hammedat then made the decision to lend her friend the N1 million she was holding for her mother.
But when her mother demanded her money back, the youngster quickly stopped talking to her and blocked her.

Distressed, Hameedat turned to loan applications to generate more than N400,000, which he then topped off her other savings to equal the N500,000 she had disbursed to her buddy.
In the end, Hammedat encountered financial troubles and a debt cycle as she struggled to pay back the money she had borrowed.
“She told us she was going shopping yesterday at approximately 11:00 p.m., when we last saw her. Around one in the morning on Wednesday, we found out she had taken Sniper. Her roommate (name withheld), who had gone to bed early, had awakened her up in the middle of the night to discover her having trouble breathing, throwing up, and frothing at the mouth.
In the meantime, the UNILORIN Management announced that it has started looking into the purported suicide occurrence.
In an interview with Vanguard, the university’s director of information, Mr. Kunle Akogun, stated that the stories on different social media platforms have flooded the university with information indicating that it has initiated inquiries into the incident.
Inokun, “We have also received a number of reports regarding the tragic incident. We have started our investigation and will provide the public with further information as it becomes available.”
