Tinubu intervenes In The political split that has caused a political crisis in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his immediate predecessor, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
President Tinubu stepped in during the Police Council meeting, aiming to reconcile the ongoing dispute between the two political allies. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State revealed the President’s involvement, emphasizing the positive atmosphere created by the President’s non-interference in the governorship cases presented to the courts by PDP members. Prior to this, Fubara and Wike had exchanged greetings at the meeting’s venue.

The Police Council officially appoints Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police.
The council’s approval of Kayode Egbetokun as the official Inspector General of Police (IGP) was preceded by the peace initiatives.
Ibrahim Geidam, Minister of Police Affairs, clarified that the council had approved him since he had given his own acquittal due to his acting appointment.
He pointed out that Egbetokun’s qualification for the position is demonstrated by the fact that he has also offered a roadmap for guaranteeing national security.
During their visit to Aso Rock for the Police Council meeting led by President Tinubu, Fubara and Nyesom Wike unexpectedly exchanged pleasantries despite their strained relationship. Alongside other state governors such as Yahaya Bello, Dapo Abiodun, Ahmadu Fintiri, Bala Mohammed, Abdullahi Abba, and Bassey Otu, they engaged in discussions and light-hearted banter before the closed-door session commenced.
Subsequently, Governor Wike engaged in a brief handshake and exchanged pleasantries with Governor Fubara, following their earlier interactions at the NSA’s side.
This encounter marks the first face-to-face meeting between Fubara, who was attired in a white kaftan, and Wike, also observed in a similar outfit, since the reported conflict between the two began.
Allegedly, a dispute between Fubara and Wike led to 24 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly initiating impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, causing unrest in the state. The Assembly complex on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt was reportedly bombed by suspected arsonists, resulting in damage to a section of the chamber and destruction of some valuable items.
Additionally, reports indicate that the governor’s supporters within the House of Assembly have ousted the Speaker, replacing him with the Leader of the House.
