Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, stated on Friday that protests against the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming his victory in the March 2023 governorship election would not alter anything. He emphasized that the Supreme Court is the ultimate and final authority, urging those who value democracy to accept the apex court’s verdict in good faith.
Governor Sule, along with Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Tanko Almakura, paid a ‘thank you’ visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa shortly after the Supreme Court upheld his victory.
Responding to questions about protests in his state following the Supreme Court ruling, Sule said, “Nasarawa is a state where we had over 600,000 votes and we won with over 340,000 votes, so you will know that over 200,000 people did not vote for us. So if out of these 200,000 people who did not vote for us and other sets of 1,000 people are protesting somewhere, then you will know because it’s a day that not everybody will be happy.”
He emphasized that those who comprehend democracy should respect the Supreme Court’s decision, as protests would not alter the outcome. Governor Sule highlighted the maturity displayed during their loss at the tribunal when they discouraged protests, and he urged others to adopt a similar approach.
Governor Abdullahi Sule emphasized the maturity of his political party, stating, “We are a very mature political party; we’re the ruling party in the country; we’re the ruling party in the state; and we’re showing a good example, so that’s why we will not protest.”
When asked about his reaction to the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming his victory, Governor Sule commended President Bola Tinubu for allowing the judiciary to operate independently without interference.
Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed gratitude for the democratic process and the role played by President Bola Tinubu in allowing the justice system to operate independently. During a visit to the Presidential Villa, Governor Sule commended the President for ensuring fairness in the judicial process without undue interference.
He stated, “In line with all the judgments that have been going on in the country, I think first and foremost, we must continue to thank Almighty God for giving us good health and the opportunity to see the kind of democracy we are seeing.”
Furthermore, Governor Sule extended his appreciation to the five-member panel of justices who delivered the judgment in his case without any dissent.
Governor Abdullahi Sule emphasized the conclusive nature of the Supreme Court’s judgment, stating, “As far as we are concerned in Nasarawa State, we have won at the court of appeals, unanimously. We also won today with the five justices being led by a panel of highly respected Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun (JSC). So we have to thank Almighty Allah that we also had all five justices in support of us.”
He invited opponents to join in building the state, highlighting Nasarawa’s strategic location near Abuja and its status as the only state in the North-Central with a commercial quantity discovery of oil. Governor Sule noted the state’s progress in mineral processing plants, including a nearly finished lithium factory, and flourishing agriculture.
Governor Abdullahi Sule highlighted the agricultural success in Nasarawa State, mentioning, “In fact, on my right hand is the biggest local farmer that we have in the state, and he’s rushing to go back for his harvest because he’s started harvesting.”
