Chief Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu GCFR (born March 29, 1952) is a Nigerian politician who is the 16th and current president of Nigeria. He was governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007; and senator for Lagos West in the Third Republic.
Tinubu was born in southern Nigeria and subsequently migrated to the United States to study accounting at Chicago State University. He returned to Nigeria in the early 1990s and worked as an accountant for Mobil Nigeria before joining politics as a Lagos West senatorial candidate under the banner of the Social Democratic Party in 1992. Tinubu became a participant in the National Democratic Coalition movement when dictator Sani Abacha disbanded the Senate in 1993.
As a representative of the Alliance for Democracy, Tinubu won the first post-transition Lagos State governorship election with a sizable margin. He was elected to a second term four years later. He was instrumental in the creation of the All Progressives Congress in 2013 after leaving government in 2007. He was chosen to lead Nigeria as president in 2023.

Tinubu began his education at St. John’s Primary School in Aroloya, Lagos, before moving on to Children Home School in Ibadan.
