Biden names Osagie Imasogie and Chinenye Ogwumike as advisors.
Two individuals with Nigerian ancestry have been selected as special advisers by US President Joe Biden.
The 12 members of the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States included both Osagie Imasogie and Chineye Ogwumike.
In a statement issued by the State House on Wednesday, the appointment was mentioned.
Members of the council are Kevin Young, Mimi E. Alemayehou, Rosalind Brewer, Viola Davis, Helene D. Gayle, Patrick Hubert Gaspard, C.D. Glin, Osagie Imasogie, Almaz Negash, Chinenye Joy Ogwumike, and Ham K. Serunjogi. Silvester Scott Beaman will serve as the council’s chairman.
The council’s members will be in office from 2023 to 2025.
The goal of creating the group, according to the statement, was to improve communication between American government representatives and the African Diaspora.
Members of the Council include those who have achieved distinction in business, government, athletics, the arts, academics, social work, and religious endeavors.
Part of the announcement stated, “They will provide vital guidance to strengthen trade, investment, and educational exchanges between the United States and Africa, as well as to boost trade, social, political, and economic relations between the U.S. and Africa.

Imasogie Osagie
Osagie Imasogie is the chairman of Quoin Capital and Quoin Advisors, an investment bank and SEC/FINRA-registered broker-dealer. Osagie also co-founded PIPV Capital, a private equity company that specializes in the life sciences sector and has made over $1 billion in investments there. He founded GlaxoSmithKline Ventures and served as its founding Vice President before helping to form PIPV Capital. Osagie has experience working in key marketing and R&D roles for pharmaceutical firms like GSK, SmithKline Beecham, and DuPont Merck.
He has also worked as a corporate finance partner for Price Waterhouse and as an attorney for renowned American law firm Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis. Osagie is a seasoned businessman and investor who sits on the boards of many organizations that control more than $28 billion, including FS-KKR Capital Corp. and Haverford Trust. He serves as a consultant for Brown Advisory, a company that oversees more than $140 billion. Osagie is a member of the Executive Committee and Chair of the Nominating & Governance Committee of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center. She is also Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Osagie also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Intellectual Property and is the Chairman of the Board of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. He is a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and a member of its Executive Committee. Osagie is a member of the New York State Bar in addition to being authorized to practice law in other states, and he has LLM degrees from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and the London School of Economics.
C. E. Ogwumike
In addition to being a full-time, multi-platform ESPN anchor and NBA analyst, Chinenye “Chiney” Ogwumike is a two-time WNBA All-Star with the Los Angeles Sparks. Chiney is a regular contributor to NBA Today and NBA Countdown on ESPN and a standout forward for the Sparks on the court. Chiney was born in Cypress, Texas, and is a proud first-generation Nigerian-American. She received Dr. Condoleezza Rice’s guidance while she completed her international relations degree at Stanford University, where she was selected first overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft.
Chiney excelled academically, leading Stanford to three Final Four appearances while also winning numerous awards, including Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and 2014 Capital One Academic All-American of the Year. 2014 WNBA Rookie of the Year and two-time All-Star Chiney Ogwumike is a player. From 2018 to 2022, she held the position of vice president of the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA), where she played a crucial role in negotiating the ground-breaking collective bargaining agreement for 2020.
Chiney made history by being the first Black woman to ever headline a daily, national sports talk radio show in August 2020. The ESPN Films documentary “144” on the 2020 WNBA season was produced by the 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree who also has the position of Executive Producer. As one of the youngest national sports studio analysts and the only full-time professional athlete to currently hold a regular job in the national sports media, Chiney joined ESPN as a full-time multi-platform NBA analyst in 2018. With NBA Africa and other organizations, she has been to Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, and South Africa on multiple occasions to assist in launching initiatives for youth empowerment and education that use basketball as a development tool.
